MEET YOUR RGR PARTNERS

Green+Tree+with+Roots+(Imprint+MT+Shadow

Ron Kihara

I grew up in Monterey public schools, and went on to graduate from Cal-Berkeley.  Along the way, I somehow ended up in the U.S. Army, where I was a commissioned officer, serving at Fort Dix, New Jersey.

I had a 32 year career in higher education at three Bay Area colleges, beginning at Cal Berkeley, and also including San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay.  That is where I met the love of my life, Ann, to whom I have been married 34 years.

I am one of those durn retired folks.  When Pastor Justin urged us to observe the Sabbath, I confessed that being in Monterey means that I am in Sabbath in Paradise every day.  So, although we all suffer from limitations created by the pandemic, I feel so much gratitude for our circumstance.  Although I have been legally blind for 15 years, the Lord has granted me partial vision that lasts to this day, enabling me to volunteer at ATN, for the Alliance on Aging as a “Senior Peer Counsellor”, and with the local Blind and Visually Imparired Center.

My wife Ann and I came to the Lord at the same time, realizing that we needed something more than our own strength to sustain and strengthen our marriage.  That was the best commitment we could have made, and we both thank the Lord Jesus to this day.

I am challenged to live out my faith on a daily basis.  To practice what this really means, Ann and I make a conscious effort to befriend and love our neighbors, which has amazed us and enriched us throughout our lives together.

RGR, I believe, is an extension of the All Things New core principles: coming alongside and learning to become kin to our ATN family.  As an RGR partner, together we will become fellow sojourners in God’s kingdom.
