Jay Zwagerman
I was born in Zeeland Michigan and grew up on a family farm. After graduating with an engineering degree, I went to work in Minneapolis. In the mid-seventies I transferred to Silicon Valley and worked on large computer systems for 28 years before “retiring” to Monterey in 2002. I am a dad/stepdad to 3 children and several grandchildren (college age+).
In Monterey I enjoy the beauty of the natural area and the more relaxed pace compared to Silicon Valley. I have kept very busy between house projects and volunteer work.
My faith development started very early as I grew up in a Christian home and went to a Christian school through 3 years of college. Two of my Sunday School teachers, my boy’s club leader and schoolteachers were influential in my faith development.
Most of my adult life I’ve been involved in church life and church leadership. In my engineering career I had many opportunities to mentor and coach others to be better engineers and leaders. I also volunteered for five years coaching small business leaders.
One evening, we saw a notice on “next door” about an All Things New trial service and felt led to try it. Our first reaction was not to get involved in the church plant. But over the next few months we felt called to be part of the All Things New community and ministry.
I think each one of us can always grow in our faith, in our relationships and in how we do things. I also think working together 1 on 1 or with a small team of others provides the best growth opportunities. We all have something to contribute and we each have areas to learn or to improve. That is why I am volunteering to take part in the RGR program.
