Katherine Short

I’ve been married for 40 years to my husband Gene. We have three grown children and three grandchildren. I’ve lived in Monterey County since 1989. My husband and I are both retired teachers. We live in Pacific Grove and care for Gene’s mom who has Alzheimer’s. I enjoy running, hiking, biking or just being outside, choral singing, playing the guitar, learning Spanish, crossword puzzles, reading biographies and being with my grandchildren.

I grew up in Claremont California. My family faithfully attended a Congregational church all through my childhood and high school years. Church was the center of our family life and the center of my social life in high school, but I left home for college without having made a personal connection with Jesus. I absorbed and embraced principles of forgiveness, justice and kindness, but not salvation.

At age 27, my soon to be husband shared the gospel with me and I asked Jesus to come into my heart. Almost instantaneously my world view changed and the kingdom of a personal loving God became real to me. Complete healing for the wounds from just being a human on earth was not instantaneous however. Over the years, God has faithfully continued the work he began in me and I continue to long to be more like Jesus. I am drawn to the area of resilience because I have been so often surprised and astounded at how God has entered into my hopelessness and done a new thing.

What feeds my soul is daily reading the Bible meditatively and letting God speak to me. Beauty in the natural world and in music particularly also brings me closer to God. I really enjoy meeting new people, listening to their stories and learning how God is working in their lives. I’m willing to meet either in person (safely) or by Zoom.
